Ambuklao Dam is part of a hydroelectric facility in Brgy. Ambuclao, Bokod, Benguet province in the Philippines.
Ambuklao Hydroelectric Power Plant is one of the oldest power plants in the country and was among the first large hydroelectric power plants constructed in the Philippines.
A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY
Ambuklao was commissioned by the National Power Corporation in 1956 with initial capacity of 75 MW. Back then this was considered Asia’s biggest engineering project
It is constructed in 1960 but was later shut down due to the 1999 earthquake.
In 2008 SN Aboitiz Power (SNAP) won the US$ 289.4 million bid to rehabilitate the plant and it has since then gone through major rehabilitation that was completed in 2011 with a new installed capacity of 105 MW.
